A Sadie Hawkins Party is a party where girls and young women ask boys and young men to be their dates. This is opposite of the typical style in America where men generally invite women to escort them to parties. What many people don’t know is that Sadie Hawkins originated as a character in the comic strip Lil’ Abner.

Going to a Sadie Hawkins party is a lot of fun. Normally the dance is thrown by an organization and at the party there will be dancing and light snacks available. Frequently Sadie Hawkins dances are held at junior high and high schools as dance in a different season than prom or homecoming.

Once the girl decides and asks a boy to accompany them to the Sadie Hawkins party the course is set. The girl will need to buy a dress, shoes, get her hair done and decide how to wear her make-up. This can get quite pricy for a young woman especially as it is tradition for the female to cover the cost of the date for the male. So she will also need to purchase the tickets and the cost of dinner for the evening as well.
